While everyone is looking towards Kambakkht Ishq and Love Aaj Kal to 'save the film industry' by providing long awaited hits, there is a strong likelihood that this week's upcoming release New York, may just end up being one of the bigger sleeper hits of the year. The promos have garnered a great response and evoked high curiosity. In addition, the trend seems to be that audiences want cinema which has strong content which is clearly director Kabir Khan's forte thanks to his documentary films background and something he proved with his earlier film, Kabul Express, a film which won accolades at several of the international film festivals. For a change, New York is a film which has taken stars, but used them as actors and not just for the sake of star value and the recent attacks of Indians in Australia has all of a sudden made New York an extremely relevant film in the eyes of all Indians world over. So while the industry waits for the biggies to provide much needed hits, the relatively smaller New York, may just win the battle.
