London, Aug. 15 (ANI): If rumours are to be believed, actor Russell Crowe is being lined up for a surprise role in the forthcoming Star Trek movie, due to be shot next year.

The 11th instalment of the lucrative sci-fi franchise will see the roles of Captain Kirk, Spock, Scotty being played by actors different from the ones who have played them until so far.

The grapevine is strong now that director JJ Abrams is desperate to persuade Crowe to be a part of the movie.

"Russell is definitely considering JJ Abrams' offer. Russell was always a big Star Trek fan as a kid, which is a big bonus," the Daily Express quoted an insider as saying. It, however, is yet unknown as to what role Russel is being offered to play in the film.

"A baddie would seem more likely for Russell. He could play a part in the historic movie without having to compete with any of the original cast's performances," the source said. (ANI)
