Today is the 70th birth anniversary of music maestro R D Burman. The man is synonymous for giving Bollywood some it's most cherished moments through his ever popular music. RDB or Pancham Da, as he is fondly called revolutionized the Hindi film music through his innovative style.R D Burman was India's most popular composer in 1970s, famous for his peppy tunes. He teamed up with singers Kishore Kumar, Asha Bhosle, Lata Mangeshkar and others to churn up some of the biggest hits in the Bollywood music history.
On this big day, we pay tribute to the music guru for his unparallel contribution in making Bollywood music one of the most popular forms of entertainment.
Here's a list of TEN of his most memorable film compositions that still make RDB the reigning king of the music world.
TEESRI MANZIL: Considered to be one of the first hits of Pancham Da, the music of this film opened new pathways for RDB. The film is best remembered for its songs like 'O Haseena' and 'Aaja Aaja'.
HARE RAMA HARE KRISHNA: The title song of this film became the hip-hop anthem of its time and the famous song 'Dum maro dum' became the talk of the town.
CARAVAN: The film had the best Bollywood cabaret ever- Piya tu ab to aaja, picturized on Helen and sung by Asha Bhosle and R D Burman (''Monica! O my darling''). He also received his first Filmfare Best Music nomination for ''Caravan.''
YAADON KI BARAAT: Another musical hit of its time. Remembered for its song 'Yadoon Ki baraat'.
SHOLAY: The film still continues to be one of the most popular films in bollywoods history. The most famous song of this film still remains the Asha Bhonsle-RDB duet 'Mehbooba Mehbooba'.
AANDHI: Alongwith lyricist Gulzar, the duo gave Hindi film music a completely new turn. The film is best remembered for its songs like 'Is mod se jaate hain', 'tum aa gaye ho', 'Tere bina zindagi se koi' and others
GHAR: The film was a huge hit for R.D. Burman-Gulzar duo with songs like 'Tere bina jiya jaaye na', 'Aaj Kal paon zameen par', 'Phir Wohi Raat hai.'
SHALIMAR: The film was one of the biggest musical hits of its time. Its song 'Hum bewafa hargiz na the' is still a popular sing.
KUDRAT: The song 'hume tumse pyar kitna' sung by Kishore Kumar and Asha Bhonsle was the highlight of this film.
THE GREAT GAMBLER: Another masterpiece of RDB. The song 'Do lafzon ki hai dil ki kahani' couldn't have been composed more beautifully.
