Madhur Bhandarkar is often accused of being a limited film maker who cannot make big budget films and that his films are always sad and depressing. He can only handle the dark genre and can never in his life make a good love story or a comedy. But Madhur feels otherwise. He states, ''If I want to make a love story or a comedy, it will be according to my sensibilities. I started my journey with CHANDNI BAR, which had a one-and-a-half crore budget. I made FASHION in 20 crores. In seven years, I've progressed a lot. I've proved myself in terms of creativity and opulence. I sell concepts, not stars.''
He further adds, ''The thing is I don't belong to any camp. If anyone asks me which group I belong to, I tell them that I belong to an orphan group because I've nothing to do with the film industry people. I live in my own world and make my kind of cinema for my audience.''
