Mumbai, Aug 16 (ANI): After scorching the ramp, a Kashmiri model-turned-actor Muzammil Ibrahim, is all set to woo the audience with his Bollywood debut.
Known for his looks, Muzammil is beginning a new chapter as he shifts from the ramp to the reel with the flick 'Dhokha'.
Made under the banner of Mahesh Bhatt's Vishesh Films, the film sees Muzammil donning the character of a Muslim cop Zaid Ahmed, who is dedicated towards his work and country.
Set against a backdrop of custodial deaths, the film delves into the dark reality of terrorism.
It's a smooth sailing for Zaid, until tragedy strikes suddenly and turns his life upside down.
His wife, who is killed during a bomb blast, is accused of being a suicide bomber. Zaid is accused and confronted by people for no fault of his. What begins then is a search for truth by him to prove his wife innocent. But, investigations reveal otherwise and then ensue a conflict between him and society.
The film is a statement on the state of Muslims in the country.
The character portrayed by Muzammil has nuances of his personality and his views and outlook about being a Muslim in India as also his experiences of living life in Kashmir.
"I definitely associate with the character. I think it has more to do with my background because I have been brought up in Kashmir. The script was written when I met Bhatt and it was written on me. He got to know me, how personally I feel about the society, how I deal with issues, what my opinions were towards just how the government was towards everything when it comes to dealing with Muslims today. It has a lot of my nuances in it," he said.
Muzammil, whose stint as a successful model, started with an ad campaign for premium vehicle manufacturer Mahindra and Mahindra's SUV Bolero has more than 800 fashion shows to his credit.
He has also featured in top notch brands like Maruti, Siyaram Suitings, Parle, Titan, Onida amongst many others.
He is probably the first success story from Jammu and Kashmir who has made it the top and is now one of the leading male models in India.
Things have come a long way and a lot has changed in his native land since the time he moved out from there.
The scenic valley is on way to revival as it is slowly gaining back its place amongst top tourist destinations in the country, as things are taking a turn for the better as result of peace initiatives between both the countries.
"From the time I was studying there, to the time now, more and more people are going there to visit the place. It's really good to see that now people come and get to see such a beautiful place. I hope that it gets better in future," he said.
His success has paved way for many others like him in Kashmir who wants to explore better opportunities and pursue their dreams.
Muzammil, who was awarded state bravery award for saving a boy from drowning, still has fond memories of the scenic valley and yearns to get back to his homeland.
"You just go there once and you would feel like you want to belong to this place. I definitely want to go back and relish my memories," he said. (ANI)
