Tabu is no stranger to Tamil cinema. She acted in Kandukondaen Kandukondaen and Iruvar. Her first English movie, Mira Nair's The Namesake, was not just a critically acclaimed movie but also raked in an astounding Rs. 60 crores worldwide.
Tabu's acting was hailed by many as the best.
And now Mira Nair has decided to compete for the Oscars too. Sources say that Mira is eyeing the best actress statue for Tabu.
Tabu has also wooed a lot of westerners with her effective portrayal in Cheeni Kum so getting noticed is not an issue. But this year, the category is already loaded with five full months still open for the other contentions. It would be pretty tough to decide the outcome now but the frontrunners for this coveted statue as of now are Tabu, Angelina Jolie for her "A Mighty Heart," (the story of journalist Daniel Pearl) and Norah Jones for "My Blueberry Nights." What is more astonishing is that Irfan khan had starred both in Namesake and Mighty heart and one of his earlier films The Warrior, also came very close to the Oscars nomination. So if anyone wants to send their movie for the Oscars try signing up Irfan Khan. He seems to be an Oscar magnet.
