Producer Sanjay Gupta has been encouraging filmmakers in his own. He launched his production house not just with the intent of making his own films but also to be able to encourage new talent. Even his 'Dus Kahaaniyaan' had directors other than him contributing to the film. Currently, the man is busy with his next release, Acid Factory and is in no mood to direct another movie.
So what better than to produce films for other directors. In fact, these days, the filmmaker is quite high on signing on women directors for the future projects of his production house. According to reports, Gupta has already signed Pooja Bhatt to direct a film for White Feather Films, and it seems that Meghna Gulzar is next on his list. It will be the first instance when Mahesh Bhatt's daughter will be working away from home, for another banner. Pooja's film is quite an ambitious project as she will be adapting Chitra Banerjee Divakaruni's novel 'Vine of Desire' for the film. As for Meghna, she is reportedly directing a movie called 'Milte Hain', said to be a comedy, for Gupta. Guess, Gupta's deep admiration for Gulzar has a lot to do with that as well. But suddenly there seem to be a lot more female directors around than there were before. It is encouraging to see people like Gupta making a conscious effort to give them a chance. Incidentally, in the last couple of years, female directors like Reema Kagti, Zoya Akhtar and Nandita Das, have made their directorial debut. Up ahead, one will be see Leena Yadav's 'Teen Patti' releasing soon. Come to think of it, there are quite a few of them around. It will be interesting to see how they shape up in the future.
