Director cum writer and sometimes actor too, Anurag Kashyap has had a tumultuous career as a filmmaker. But after a long struggle with his own inner self and with the environment around him, he has finally managed to get his just due. In the last year or so, with the success of 'Dev D', the director is finally at the receiving end of praise from critics and the public alike.
Kashyap first shot to fame with Ram Gopal Verma's 'Satya', which he had written.However, his first directorial venture, 'Paanch', ran into problems with censors and has yet to see the light of day. But he managed to move on and made his next film, 'Black Friday', which received tremendous amount of critical acclaim. He followed it with 'No Smoking', 'Dev D' and 'Gulaal'. With Kashyap finally coming into his own this year, his environment too seems to be very kindly disposed towards him. The Venice Film festival has invited him to showcase his films, 'Dev D' and 'Gulaal'. The festival will be held from September 2nd to the 12th . The Venice festival is one of the oldest and most prestigious Film Festivals of the world. Directors of repute like the Late Satayjit Ray won the Golden Lion for his film 'Aparajito' in 1957 at the festival, while Mrinal Sen too was feted at Venice. Following in their footsteps, Kashyap prepares to head for Venice as well with 'Dev D' and 'Gulaal' in tow.
