Television queen Ekta Kapoor and Suneil Shetty's company are set to come together and make a biopic on Haji Mastan, the smuggler who made news in the 70s.
Though both sources are tight-lipped at the moment, sources reveal that work on the script for the Haji Mastan film is on. Mahesh Manjrekar, a close friend of Suniel's, has been reportedly roped into direct the film. The film on the smuggler-turned politician is expected to give Manjrekar's erstwhile defunct career a boost. The big question doing the rounds is the actor who will essay the role of the legendary Haji Mastan. The names that are being thrown around in the ring are Mithun Chakraborty and Pankaj Kapur. No one has been finalized as yet, though. In 1975, Amitabh Bachchan had played a Haji Mastan inspired character in Yash Chopra's Deewar. So this will not be the first instance that Haji Mastan has inspired someone to make a film on his life.
