Television seems to be the next destination for most of the major production houses in Bollywood currently. Not too long ago, Shah Rukh Khan, who owes his success to TV, ventured into production for the small screen with his production house Red Chillies and Idiot Box, which produced two shows that did just about average business. But that hardly seems to deter him as he is all set to produce yet another show. However, the latest to join the TV bandwagon is none other than Subhash Ghai.
According to sources, Mukta Arts is all set to produce a show for Star TV. It appears that the show is a daily, they have already started shooting for it too. As for SRK, everyone knows how he became a star with the TV show 'Fauji'. His production house is currently busy with a sequel of 'Fauji'. Even Yash Raj Films are not far behind. Apparently, they are also working on a daily. Rajshree Productions too have not lagged behind in the TV race and already have a fairly successful show running on Sahara and are in the process of working on another one. Television has gradually appeared as a lucrative option for many with former actresses like Asha Parekh and Aroona Irani turning TV producers quite successfully. But long before anyone else had realized the potential and reached for the idiot box, the Sagars were the first to make their foray into television production in the Eighties and the early Nineties. They best recognized and exploited the medium with their highly successful shows like 'Ramayana' and 'Vikram Aur Betaal'. With the business of making films becoming so much more expensive, coupled with the proliferation of TV channels constantly in need of new content, it does make business sense to be a part of the television industry. Little wonder then that even the biggies like Mukta Arts, Red Chillies, Yash Raj and Rajshree are the big names on television as well today.
