A younger hero opposite an older heroine seems to be the latest casting fad in Bollywood! While we have seen such chemistry in hit films like KHILADIYON KA KHILADI in 1996, where Akshay Kumar and Rekha ignited hormones with their saucy scenes, or even tracing back to 1966, with PHOOL AUR PATTHAR, where Dharmendra and Meena Kumari set the screen on fire, this trend seems to be knocking on the doors of Bollywood yet again.
While those films may have been lauded at the box office then, today, the scenario seems to have taken a U-Turn of some sort, with many such films booming despite having powerful actors and sometimes even, big banners. The reasons maybe many, but the older heroine-younger hero chemistry surely needed some more tadka to it! Here's taking a closer look at some of these films which failed to set hearts on fire and the box office pulse racing.
Madhuri Dixit and Akshaye Khanna in MOHABBAT
While the on screen MOHABBAT between a younger Akshaye Khanna and older Madhuri Dixit could have made for a powerful love story, the film failed to live up to expectations.
Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Vivek Oberoi in KYUN HO GAYA NA
Though the film was meant to depict on screen the romance between the then couple Aishwarya Rai and Vivek Oberoi, It failed to kindle any magic.
Vidya Balan and Shahid Kapoor in KISMAT KONNECTION
The young Shahid romancing older Vidya failed to light a spark at the box office. Yaar, this sure was a KISMAT KONNECTION only, kyunki waise toh there was not too much of a connection between the couple!
Sushmita Sen and Randeep Hooda in KARMA AUR HOLI
Thirty four year old Sush was paired opposite her younger once upon a time beau Randeep in KARMA AUR HOLI. Well, apart from the publicity that the lip-lock between the two managed to get before its release, this film too failed to grab eyeballs.
Bipasha Basu and Neil Nitin Mukesh in AA DEKHEN ZARA
The dusky Bong beauty and the chikna dude could have made for an unconventional, yet convincing pair; however, after convincingly screaming AA DEKHEN ZARA in the promos, their jodi could not manage to keep the film afloat!
Rani Mukherjee and Shahid Kapoor in DIL BOLE HADIPPA
What was touted as the slim and sexy 31 year old Rani's (so called) comeback film in Bollywood with the younger (and in looks) Shahid Kapoor, DIL BOLE HADIPPA failed to cast the much anticipated spell at the box office!
Konkona Sen Sharma and Ranbir Kapoor in WAKE UP SID
The blue eyed hunk of the Kapoor khandan is paired opposite the older Koko in the much anticipated WAKE UP SID. Fasten your seat belts, cause it's all eyes on this taaza jodi now. Let's see if they manage to break this spell, and make our audiences wake up to their jugal bandi!
