Strange things are happening at the US box-office. A sex-laden raunchy comedy in the lines of American Pie series titled ‘Superbad’ was released last week. Made at a budget of $18 million, this movie has grossed over $68 million in just two weeks and is expected to break the century barrier soon.
Superbad is the second film this year to be rated number one at the box-office for two consecutive weeks after the Pirates 3rd outing.
The movie very easily ousted the previous champ Bourne Ultimatum, but showed tremendous legs as it went down by just 36% which is very low for an action movie. The movie has collected $185 million so far, which is more than its two predecessors - Bourne flick followed by Rush Hour 3, which has grossed $12 million with a cumulative total of $108 million.
This rare feat by Superbad has taken the entire movie trade analysts by surprise. This movie was well appreciated by the critics and the public alike but the reason for its tremendous figures was due to its brilliant marketing skills. Its clips in youtube.com was well appreciated and hugely liked. Hope the Tamil cinema does understand the importance of marketing and utilize it to its fullest.
