It's official now. The rights of Sholay will finally go to Pritish Nandy Communications following a $100 million deal between Pritish Nandy and Sascha Sippy. PNC will makes its sequel along with an animated version as well.
There has been much that has been written about the tussle between Ram Gopal Verma and Sascha Sippy over the rights of Sholay. The court verdict has finally come in favour of Sascha, who is the chairman of Sholay Media and Entertainment. Ramu had to give up the right to use the title as well as the name sof the characters like Basanti, Jai, Veeru and Gabbar. After denying Ramu the rights, Sascha has gone ahead and given the rights to Pritish Nandy Communications to remake the film, officially. That's not all, the film will also be made in an animated version. There were many makers who were vying for rights of the film, before PNC finally won the deal. Production on the animated version of Sholay is scheduled to begin very soon. The cast and crew for the official remake is also being finalized. The list of directors that are being considered for the project include names like Shankar, Priyadarshan and Sanjay Gupta. After that, the prequel, and the sequel will also be planned. The $100 million deal was finalized in London on Tuesday.
