London, Aug 30 (ANI): Comic Steve Coogan has hit back at claims that he is to blame for actor Owen Wilson's suicide attempt.
Coogan had been blamed by former ladylove Courtney Love of being the one to influence Wilson into taking drugs.
"I went through it with Steve I was just out of rehab, and he was right there with the drugs. I tried to warn Owen. I tried to warn his friends ... I hope from the bottom of my heart that Owen stays the hell away from that guy," Usmagazine.com quoted her, as saying.
However, the actor has hit back at Love's statement, saying that he is not to blame for Wilson going on a drug binge or slashing his wrists.
"These accusations are unfounded, unhelpful and hurtful to all concerned. We are taking legal advice," the funnyman told Extra.
Wilson and Coogan became pals on the set of film comedy Night At The Museum.
Wilson is currently recovering in hospital after slashing his wrists over the weekend.
An already depressed Wilson is said to have been pushed over the edge by magazine photos of former ladylove Kate Hudson kissing her new beau, comic Dax Sheppard.
The actor was found by his elder brother Andrew who immediately called the cops after which he was rushed to the Cedars-Sinai Medical Center.
Wilson, in a statement, has asked the media not to intrude on his privacy, saying that he needed time to heal in private.
"I respectfully ask that the media allow me to receive care and heal in private during this difficult time," he said. (ANI)
