Yes, you heard it right; Pritish Nandy, the famous film production company, has given a record Rs. 443 crores for the rights of Sholay. Sholay, the most successful movie in the history of Indian cinema, is said to have ruled the theatres for an astounding five and a half years and also crossed the 100-day each time it was re-released.
Sippy has chosen the right time to hit back at Ram Gopal Verma when Sholay’s unofficial remake “Ram Gopal Verma ki Aag” is being released amidst huge expectation. Even though RGV has said that his movie is not a remake, but an inspiration, yet this news will surely come in as a big shocker to the director.
But the Rs. 400 crore-deal is not just for Sholay remake but for four movies. An animated version of Sholay is expected to start mid-September and the original remake will commence from this year end. The other two will be a prequel and sequel to the legendary movie. This is definitely turning out to be interesting.
Another news doing the rounds is that the legendary Devdas is going to be made again in Hindi in the contemporary world with Shiney Ahuja and Lara Dutta. Maybe the idea is emulated from Ram Gopal Verma as Aag is a contemporary take on the blockbuster.
