Shah Rukh Khan turns 44 today. The superstar keeps it low key and quiet as he prepares to spend the day with his very close friends and family. In fact, the whole of this year has been rather quiet on the SRK front. He was in the forefront with Aamir Khan during the strike, negotiating on behalf of the producers' body. But in general, it has preferred to lie low this year.
SRK has also been hard at work, finishing the shooting of Karan Johar's 'My Name Is Khan', where he comes together with Kajol, the one actress the audience loves to see him opposite. Post Karan's film, he will probably be seen in a movie directed by his other good friend Farah Khan and one by Anubhav Sinha. But this much is true, the actor needs to do something different and redefine himself. There is a time and age for everything. And it is high time that his screen character 'Rahul' retired for good. 'My Name Is Khan' may well be the beginning of this new era in SRK's career. SRK probably needs to take a leaf out of colleague Aamir Khan's book on his ability to redefine himself with every film he does. Of course, very few have the kind of charisma that SRK has, both on and off screen, as also his intensity and energy, all of which has helped SRK in sustaining a frenzied fan following, both in India and abroad. One would love to see him, more often in the 'Swades' kind of roles, roles which bring the sensitive actor in him to the fore. In that context, Karan's film sounds very promising. One is sure that even if 2009 was a low year for SRK, he will be back in 2010 with his usual flamboyance and wow us with his next movie. We would like to wish the superstar a very happy birthday and a great year ahead.
