A new trend has emerged in the World of Hindi cinema whereby to evince interest posters of the films are also being used for building up the tempo for the film. It was not so the case earlier, where at the most the posters of the films would be adorning the walls only few days before the release of the film was the norm. Interest in the film can only be created if there is an innovation in it, and the poster of KURBAAN that has been released where Kareena Kapoor is bare back has indeed created storm in the world of Hindi cinema as far as creating hype about a film is concerned.

However, the element of novelty that is perceived for KURBAAN is not innovative as far as Hindi film is concerned. Till date the most provocative poster that has been issued by the world of Hindi films is that of CHETNA directed by B.R. Ishara, where a shot was placed between the legs of Rehana Sultana and it had created a real storm. It indeed is one of the coveted posters, as it is reflection of the openness that the world of parallel cinema had adopted.

In the same manner when Raj Kapoor had released MERA NAAM JOKER, on the larger poster a shot of Simi Garewal in bikini as well. Interestingly enough with the advent of the multiplexes the world of big posters has indeed gone out of vogue for the metropolitan world, replaced by flex made posters blown from the small slides of the film clipping, though it does not create the feeling of awe in the same manner as the original large sized film posters used to create. Smaller towns are lucky that they get a chance to savor in the lorry of the posters. The advantage of big posters lay in the fact that they provide space to all the actors of the film, which the present day posters are not providing. As a matter of fact in the present day posters only the lead players dominate, and it is indeed a reflection about the fact that the films that are being marketed have become star-centric.

World of posters has indeed evolved and it has now become glossy owing to the advent of technology. But the flip side of it seems to be that the posters are now not as profusely spread around as it was during the earlier days. Or it could also be owing to the fact that posters are no more the medium to publicize a film but is one of the mediums. Even then, as a collectible item, posters have a value and they are coveted, the change that has come about is that it is difficult to obtain them, as they are not posted on the walls.
