Films depicting out-an-out office drama is a road less traveled in Bollywood. Very few filmmakers have made an attempt in this direction, as it takes immense audacity to draw out humor in an environment (office), which by default is deemed to be a not-so-pleasant one or humorless. But then whoever tried to accentuate it, turned out to be successful in their endevaour.
And now one more filmmaker is treading this path to evoke humour in a place which is touted to be the most arduous in a common man's life. Well the director and film in question is Shimit Amin's (of CHAK DE INDIA fame) latest outing ROCKET SINGH - SALESMAN OF THE YEAR, which seeks humor from this least liked atmosphere. Ranbir Kapoor plays the cool, calm and composed salesman who is always at the gunpoint to deliver his best.
Whilst, lets also take a look at other films which trod the same path in the past.
GOLMAAL: Hrishikesh Mukherjee's hit comedy GOLMAAL starring unmatched actors Amol Palekar and Utpal Dutt, is a classic example of office drama and probably the first movie to bring in fore the least explored subject. HrishiDa very beautifully showed how a common man bends himself to get a job and make both ends meet in a hilarious manner.
YES BOSS: Aziz Mirza's Shahrukh Khan starrer YES BOSS is another perfect example, which portrayed the behind-the-scenes of a workplace (which everyone of us face in our lives invariably). Shahrukh played a complete boss' man, who like any ambitious professional uses those sweet-talks to be constantly under the good books of his boss. Aziz Mirza brilliantly put forth the bitter reality in a light-hearted manner.
LAADLA: Director Raj Kanwar's very well etched out Sridevi's stern, highly disciplined and competitive character that of a typical Boss and Anil Kapoor's cool, easygoing and headstrong employee. The clash of these two professionals what makes the entire drama spicier and interesting.
