MUMBAI (Reuters Life!) - British writer Daphne du Maurier's classic novel "Rebecca " has inspired Bollywood to adapting it into a psychological thriller titled "Anamika".
"Rebecca", which was also made into an Oscar-winning film in 1940 by Alfred Hitchcock, narrates the story of a young woman who falls in love and marries a wealthy widower Maxim de Winter.
The novel focuses on her troubled relationship with her husband due to constant references to his first wife, who died under mysterious circumstances.
"Anamika has preserved the original essence of the novel despite giving it an Indian feel and context," said actress Minissha Lamba, who plays the role of the second Mrs. de Winter.
Lamba said the movie, being directed by Anant Mahadevan, has been shot in Rajasthan. It will be released either by the end of this year or early 2008.
