It did not take actor Irfan Khan too long to decide that he would do Apna Asmaan. It was the time that took him to read the script. The actor was so bowled over by the novel script that he agreed at once to do the movie.
Irfan was traveling at that time. But once he returned, he met the director Kaushik Roy. The duo had long long discussions on the script. The discussions veered from issues regarding parenting to children's problems in school, high expectations from parents, peer pressure and pressures from society on parents and children to perform and excel in studies. Kaushik's wife Sutapa too joined in the discussions about the problems they faced with schools and the pressures that they were facing for their son. The subject was so relevant that Irrfan felt that it was straight from the heart and sincere. That convinced him that the film would work very well with the audience. And after that, there was no looking back.
