It’s Friday once again and here I am giving you all the information on the movies releasing this weekend at the theatres near you. Six movies are gracing the theatres this week with each of them catering to different genres. Let us analyze the movies and check which one has the potential to make it to the pick of the week.

First, let me tell you about a movie, directed by a veteran whose last film, released just a week ago, was the biggest disaster Bollywood has seen in recent. No prize for guessing - it is Ram Gopal Verma’s Darling. Fardeen, Esha and Isha join to give this romantic, horror-comedy. Horror-comedy is hardly tried in Indian cinema and this could be a trendsetter. But due to the Aag debacle many aren’t ready to spend their hard earned money to watch a RGV’s movie again, and everyone is waiting for the review to come in before opening their purse. Let’s just hope RGV gets it right this time around. Cheena Thaana 001, a comedy flick releasing today, had no prior marketing campaign. The movie’s highlight seems to be Vadivel and Prasanna’s comedy but now the movie would rely only on word of mouth. Why do such movies fail to understand the importance of marketing? It always remains a mystery to me.

Next in the race is Marudhamalai. This movie is marketed decently and the trailer will surely bring in the crowds. Marudhamalai is the latest action extravaganza from the action king with generous dose of comedy in it. Vadivel’s comedy is said to be the highlight of the movie. Another Tamil film Thoovanam has also made it to the theatres. Thoovanam, an urban love story with newcomers, has been in the news for a while. As the movie is having little to no known stars, it will rely heavily on word of mouth and the fact that it got a clean U will also help in its opening. Sanju Baba is back with a multi-starrer. And the movie in question is the Indra kumar directed Dhamaal, which stars Sanju’s Munnabhai partner Arshad Warsi, Ritesh Deshmukh and the funny man Javed Jafferi. Indra kumar recently turned to mindless comedy after the stupendous success of his Masti and is very confident that this movie would repeat its success. Venture into the theatre if you are ready for some mindless laughathon. Now for the pick of the week, I have to say this week it was not that tough, if Aag was not such a disaster Darling would have made the choice a little difficult but as Aag is already out of most of the theatres within its first week it is easy to say “Apna Aasman”. Didn’t get it? This week’s pick of the week is Apna Aasman.

Behindwoods.com Pick of the Week is Apna Aasman The movie has already been accepted worldwide in many festivals as a brilliant film and so this doesn’t come as a surprise. Apna Aasman has an unusual story but a story which is very simple and straight forward. As the caption of the movie says “how far would you go to make your child a genius?” this is a plight of the parents of a fifteen-year-old who decides to give an experimental brain booster medication to their child to make him a genius. But the drug has a side effect which the parents have to cope up with. What follows is an emotional rollercoaster ride between the parents and their genius child. The movie stars Shobana, Irrfan Khan, Rajat Kapoor, Anupam Kher and Dhruv as the genius son. Go for this if you like to see a good movie. The movie is directed by an advertisement director Kaushik Roy. And do you want my tip on how to choose and venture to the theatres on such movies? Here it goes: Just check if such low budget, art filmy type movies has the name Rajat Kapoor in it, if he is there you can go into the theatres blindly and you will be impressed. Verdict – Yeh Apna Aasman hai Dhamaal karo. – (I think I can become a Hindi poet, what you say?)
