NEW DELHI (Reuters) - Sleek black outfits took centre stage at India's premier fashion event late on Friday as designer Rocky S sought inspiration for his women's clubwear range from a newly launched mobile phone.
Bollywood actress and former beauty queen Lara Dutta walked the ramp for the Nokia Show, as the Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week wrapped up proceedings on day three of the five-day extravaganza.
Dutta, 29, attained celebrity status after winning the Miss Universe title in 2000, the same year that the first fashion week was held in India.
Rocky S draped Dutta and his other models all in black, with only a hint of pink and blue with metallic sequins visible in the shorts, mini skirts, pants and dresses they wore.
Earlier, designer Anita Dongre launched her eco-friendly range of women's wear in organic cotton in a collection inspired by nature.
Only vegetable dyes were used in her 'Grassroot' collection and Dongre said that even the waste material generated during processing had been used as compost.
In keeping with her theme, Dongre's dresses and tunics were a mix of blues and greens and featured motifs of flowers and leaves.
Designer Surily Goel used mother of pearl shells and studs to embellish her range of jerseys and georgettes but Prashant Verma, making his debut at the fashion week, ensured that his evening wear collection would not be easily forgotten.
His outfits in black were printed with portraits -- of himself.
More than 40 designers are showcasing spring and summer collections for 2008 at the fashion week. The shows are being held for the first time at Pragati Maidan, a sprawling venue designed for trade fairs, instead of swanky hotels.
