Urmila Matondkar is very happy these days and it has nothing to do with her bagging any new films. The actress is just back from Dubai, where she along with former Pakistani cricketer Imran Khan, managed to raise Rs 3 crore at a charity event organized by the ex-cricketer.
Urmila, who had met Imran at common friend Parmeshwar Godrej's party, was invited to be part of the event after Imran learnt that she was involved with quite a few charitable causes. Imran spoke to the actress about a diagnostic centre that he wished to open in Karachi. Urmila, who has been to Pakistan a couple of times, has formed a bond with that country. So when Imran made a request, she found it difficult to refuse. The event in Dubai consisted of an auction followed by a telethon. The actress kickstarted the event with a donation of Rs 1 lakh to the cause. But the highlight of the evening was Urmila's crooning. According to the actress, since she was not carrying anything which could be auctioned, she thought of singing instead. It was a last minute decision but it managed to raise 25,000 dirams. Urmila sang her favourite Mukesh number "Kisie ki muskurahaton pe ho nisaar,' which had the crowd asking for more. The response was so awesome that the actress is thinking of having her own concert. Well, with the number of films that she has on hand, it may not be such a bad idea, really.
