The Prime Minister, Mr. Manmohan Singh has found a unique way to celebrate his birthday on September 26. He will officially release the autobiography of the ever green actor, filmmaker and studio baron, Dev Anand whose eighty-fourth birthday also falls on the same day (September 26). The PM will release the first copy of "Romancing With Life", the story of Dev's sixty-two year long span of life in films at his residence. Mrs. Sonia Gandhi will be the chief guest. The function will be attended by a select invited group of eight dignitaries and celebrities from the capital. The event will be covered by the world press. The release function will be followed by an exclusive party in Dev's honour, the venue of which is being kept a secret.
The following day (September 27th) Dev Anand will fly down to Mumbai where he will celebrate his birthday at the ITC Grand Maratha Sheraton in the presence of a large gathering of friends, colleagues and celebrities from different walks of life. The release of the book will be a major highlight of the night.
Dev Anand will then go on a whirl wind tour of three major places in India, Chennai, Bangalore and Calcutta where hectic plans are being made for the promotion of "Romancing with Life". He will then fly west and his first stop will be the world renowned Frankfurt Book Fair where the release of his book will be a major event. The book published by Harper and Collins will be translated into German and negotiations are already on for translations in many other languages. From Frankfurt, Dev Anand will fly to Stockholm, Sweden where hectic plans are being made for a double event, Dev's first visit to the country and the release of his book. On October 13th, Dev will be in London to promote his book. Anil Ambani and Tina Ambani (Tina was Dev's discovery in "Des Pardes") are to specially fly down to London for the occasion. Other leading celebrities, British, Indian and Pakistanis settled in Britain and others will be present at the occasion. From London, Dev Anand will take off on a long trip all over America and then to Canada before he comes back to cover the rest of India. "This is as exciting as making and releasing a film, even more. I have never felt so excited at any stage of my life full of excitement. I am very happy that the Prime Minister is releasing my book and also very happy that Mrs. Sonia Gandhi has agreed to be the chief guest. I feel a tremendous sense of honour. All I can say is that I have told the whole truth about my life so far. My book covers everything, my achievements and my failures, my ups and downs, the people who have come into my life, big and small; I have talked about the women in my life. I have talked about the growth of my country as I have grown with it. I have not hurt any one living or dead, how could I when I have not hurt anyone in my life? I could have written five books about my life but I have controlled my flow and compressed my life into five hundred odd pages. I have tried to keep the book as racy as my life has been. I hope I have succeeded. This book doesn't mean the end of Dev. There is so much still to do. There are so many dreams waiting to be fulfilled. The end of this book could well be the beginning of a new beginning for me," the ever so optimistic Dev Anand at 84 says.
