Director Priyadharshan is a well-known name in contemporary Indian cinema. He is currently working on Kanchivaram starring Prakash Raj. As the name indicates, the movie is about the trials and tribulations of the weaver community. Though Kanchivaram is his original story, Priyadharshan believes that remaking old movies from one language to another, is no crime.
The director feels that when a movie is a hit in one region, keeping the story the same and modifying the screenplay to suit another region will make the remake a hit as well. That is why he is now making Chandramukhi in Hindi. Chandramukhi, a runaway hit, was the remake of a super hit Malayalam movie – rehashed to suit the Tamil audience. Now Bhool Bhulaiya will be the rehashed version to suit the Hindi audience; Priyadharshan is confident that it will do as well as the other language versions. Moreover, using an already tested winning formula reduces the producer’s worries.
Priyadharshan adds that he has identified ten Malayalam movies that he intends to remake, and most likely will. But that does not mean he will no longer work on original scripts. Movies like Kanchivaram, with stories close to his heart will keep coming, but to make sure his producers get good returns, he will do remakes as well!
