Choreographer-turned -director Farah Khan has been inspired by Hema Malini so much that she has made her leading lady Deepika Padukone look exactly like her in Om Shanti Om.
The promos of the film clearly showed the fact that Farah had consciously used Hema Malini's style to make Deepika look convincing in her role as a 70s superstar. Farah did a lot of research on Hema Malini's costumes and the way the actresses of that era made public appearances. Farah has even made Deepika act in a take of a movie called Dreamy Girl, a take on Hema's Dream Girl. Great care was taken that Deepika's makeup and hairdo resembled the Dream Girl's, as well as the body language. Basically, Farah wanted to recreate the nostaligia of an era passed. And Hema Malini was one of the popular stars of the Seventies. Farah had admitted that Hema is one of her favourite actresses. But she has denied modeling Deepika entirely on Hema Malini. She says that she was inspired by Rekha, Leena Chandravakar, Mumtaz and also Helen, besides the Dream Girl.
