Dev Anand (Sept 26, 1923) is definitely one of the most charismatic stars that Hindi films have seen. The actor, who turns a sprightly 84, is rightly known as the evergreen star of Hindi films. While most of his contemporaries have died or have hung up their boots, Devdutt Pishorimal Anand from Gurdaspur continues to March ahead undaunted by age. In the Fifties, Dev Anand, along with Dilip Kumar and Raj Kapoor, was part of the ruling triumvirate of the Hindi film industry.
Dev Anand came to Bombay after completing his graduation Lahore's Government College, to join elder brother Chetan Anand in the IPTA. His first break as an actor came with Prabhat's Hum Ek Hain (1946). Even though the film didn't do well, Dev Anand formed a very important friendship during the shoot with the young choreographer Guru Dutt. The friends even formed a pact: If Guru Dutt was to turn filmmaker, he would take Dev as his hero, and if Dev was to produce a film then he would take Guru Dutt as its director.
