It has been yet another busy semester for the students of Whistling Woods International. As their class work has jumped from one major film project to the next, the flow of visitors and guest faculty to the institute has been likewise unrelenting.
Together, Anil Kapoor and Feroz Khan took students through the production of Gandhi My Father. Madhur Bhandarkar conducted his first guest faculty session on socially relevant cinema. Gulzar spent hours with the students, sharing his decades of experience. Steve Barron, the legendary music video director responsible for Michael Jackson's unique videos, flew in from the US for a master class on song picturisation. Shimit Amin shared his secrets for directing a successful sports film. Madhuri Dixit spent time with the Acting students. Rakeysh Mehra, David Dhawan, Kamlesh Pandey, Amitabh Bachchan, Govind Nihalani, BR Chopra, the Governor of China and many other dignitaries, all spent time teaching, exploring the campus and interacting with students.
The generosity of these industry leaders in sharing their time and knowledge with the students of Whistling Woods illustrates the visionary and encompassing nature of the Indian film industry that the Prime Minister, Dr Manmohan Singh recently spoken of, stating: "No other institution has been as successful as our film industry in achieving the emotional integration of this vast and diverse land".
