The Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC)'s high charges are scaring away Bollywood producers. In fact, if this state of affairs continues, then very soon, the Bollywood fraternity may start exploring options in other states. A recent example is Rakesh Roshan.
The filmmaker is very peeved at the MSRDC and is already looking for an alternative location to shoot a tunnel scene for his film Krazy 4. The production team of Krazy 4 approached the state authorities for permission to shoot a single scene on the Pune-Mumbai Expressway. However, they had to cancel the shoot because of the huge charges demanded by the MSRDC. They had to take one shot of the car getting into the tunnel and another of the car exiting from the tunnel and were asked to pay Rest 5 lakh as deposit and Rest 4 lakh for one-and-a-half-hour of shooting. According to Roshan this is a ridiculous sum. He is now looking for an alternative location. He said that he may go and shoot in some other state where they won't loot him. According to Roshan, getting permission from the BMC is a nightmare. Besides, there is no support from the state. The Indian Motion Pictures Producers Association has already protested against the raising of tariffs for shooting films along the Indian railways. As per the current proposal, the tariff rates for producer shooting along the Indian railways will be Rest 1 lakh per day, an increase from the current rate of Rs 10,000 per day. The producer's body has argued that the rates are too high for the middle and low end budget films. According to MSRDC however, their rates are quite reasonable but they do charge very high deposits as safety against any damage or destruction of state property. According to them, the film fraternity does not get back to them once the shooting is over.
