Bollywood-cricket nexus

True to its nature, the Indian Hindi film industry had its own share of drama, death, fights, sleaze, controversy, comebacks, corruption, commercial success and failure, and nudity, in 2012. The same ingredients that some of the Bollywood films employ to tease, titillate, torture or teach its committed audiences. Here are some of the most interesting Bollywood events from the year 2012:

The ugly face of match fixing reared again and catapulted a small time actress Nupur Mehta to the front page headlines. In March, British daily The Sunday Times published an article, which claimed that the 2011 World Cup Semi-Final match between India and Pakistan was fixed and the bookmakers used a Bollywood actress to seduce Pakistani players for fixing.

The daily also published a photograph of the actress with blurred face. However Nupur Mehta denied any involvement in the fixing controversy and has even stated that she would take legal action against the British daily that used her picture in the article. For the uninitiated, Nupur is a one-film wonder, having starred in the 2005 Sunny Deol-starrer Jo Bole So Nihal. Last heard, she was being considered for Bigg Boss, known for having people who have had a brush with controversy. However, it didn’t work out and Nupur is again relegated to oblivion.
