By Abid, Glamsham EditorialIt was given that Bhushan Kumar and Vishesh Films' AASHIQUI 2 would open to a good, if not great start, and that is how it went, despite a stiff opposition from Hollywood's IRON MAN 3 especially at 3D and IMAX at Metros. But it was the Mohit Suri directed AASHIQUI 2 that ruled the hearts, be it Bengal, Bihar, Punjab, U.P, Madhya Pradesh or Rajasthan. And that without a top five star, just like its predecessor!
We bring you the actual picture from the people at the helm of affairs at India's leading cinema chains to know how both the films are faring at the box-office.
As per Mr. Ashish Saksena, COO Big Cinemas, "Both the new releases, AASHIQUI 2 and IRON MAN 3 are doing very well. In case of IRON MAN 3, the film is doing best in IMAX and 3D format, obviously due to the special effects."
Mr. Vishal Anand, Head of Operations, Fun Cinemas informs, "Despite a working day AASHIQUI 2 has opened to 40-45 percent while IRON MAN is a wee bit higher at 30-55 percent (the higher percentage for the 3D version). The business is expected to pick up further during the weekend."
As per Mr. Girish Wankhade, DGM Cinemax, "It is too early to say anything as the films have just released." He, however promised to tell us more once the weekend sets in.
In the end, Mr. Devang Sampat, Head Strategic Initiatives, Cinepolis gave a detailed report saying, "As you know Cinepolis has 59 screens across India. As far as this week's new releases are concerned, the youths have caught on to AASHIQUI 2! The film has seen back to back housefull shows at our property in Patna. We expect a great weekend, given the very positive word- of -mouth. The other release, IRON MAN 3, is also doing well but the preference is for the 3D version."
Well, that is straight from the people who matter, and all pointers are to the fact that the heart is mightier than iron. Not that we had any doubts!
