Michael Schumacher, the seven-time champion who dominated the sport for the best part of a decade, announced his retirement on Thursday not with a garland around his neck, but in the knowledge he'd been replaced by a younger man. The 43-year-old German revealed his decision at Suzuka, scene of one of his greatest triumphs, just days after being told he was being ousted by Mercedes in favour of McLaren's Lewis Hamilton.
