Finding Your Comfort Food Fix At 1 am
A roundup of the country’s most popular after party hangouts to satisfy those binge cravings.
Mumbai: Bade Miyan might have lost some of its sheen but is still a compelling proposition at 1 am when you want their kebabs and rolls to hit that spot. And they’re not: there’s a long list of joints from Sardars at Tardeo to Ayub’s at Kala Ghoda Juhu that serve everything from Pav Bhaji to faloodas at 2 am. Lotus Cafe at the JW Marriott is a magnet for revellers while the midnight buffet (Rs 700/-) with their signature Chicken biryani at the Square at Novotel Juhu is perfect if all that head banging leaves you ravenous.
Chennai: The Park hotel – they whip up terrific pastas and arguably the city’s finest Tiramisu. If you crave for something more earthy, head to Buhari’s on Mount Road; one of Chennai’s oldest restaurants where the Chicken 65 was literally invented. You might not get a table at Mathsya at 2 am, but the masala dosas here are an eternal favourite.
Bangalore: Hotel Empire; The old faithful keep coming back for their ghee rice and chicken kebabs. Cafe Mozaic at the Vivanta by Taj, MG Road is not just conveniently located but also has a very good weekend buffet (Rs 700 plus taxes) that winds up at 1 am. You could also check out the Cubbon Pavilion’s midnight buffet (Rs 985/-) at the ITC Gardenia.
Delhi: The Machan at the Taj Mahal hotel is an old favourite while the 24/7 at the Lalit in Connaught Place scores not just with its location but also its range of rolls and sandwiches and comforting hot chocolate. Head to ‘Comesum’ cafe at Nizamuddin railway station for arguably the city’s best biryani at 2 am. If you’d like a ridiculously early breakfast head under the Uttam Nagar Metro station for piping hot stuffed paranthas.
