"Girls" rule, every other comedy drools at the 2013 Golden Globe awards.

The acclaimed HBO show pulled off major upsets in its first year, winning Best Comedy and Best Comedy Actress for Lena Dunham.

"Aaagh!" Dunham screamed as she took the top comedy award. "I'm standing here with the greatest collaborators anyone could ever ask for."

"Girls" beat last year's winner, heavyweight "Modern Family," as well as "The Big Bang Theory," "Episodes," and "Smash."

When Dunham herself triumphed over Globe co-hosts Tina Fey and Amy Poehler, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, and Zooey Deschanel, she said all of them helped her get through "middle school, mono, and a ruptured eardrum." (Fey later pretended to be offended by the middle school mention.)

During her speech for Best Comedy, Dunham thanked HBO, co-executive producer Jennifer Konner, the show's crew … and one other unlikely person.

"I also promised myself if I ever got this chance, I would thank Chad Lowe," Dunham said to laughs. "I'm sorry. I just promised. And I promised my mom."

Well, at least Lowe got thanked by somebody at an awards show (remember, he was infamously snubbed in 2000 by then-wife Hilary Swank after she won the Oscar for "Boys Don't Cry").

Lowe tweeted his appreciation for the shout-out:

Count Lowe among the boys who like "Girls"!
