Daniel Day-Lewis might be winning awards for his lead role in "Lincoln,” but it was almost the role that never was! Steven Spielberg had always intended for the actor to play the part, but Day-Lewis had turned down the opportunity in 2003, leaving the project in limbo. Fast forward to 2010: A dinner, an A-list actor, and a phone call later, the project was green lit and Daniel was cast in the role of the 16th president of the United States.

Click on the video to hear Daniel Day Lewis’ acceptance speech at Sunday night’s SAG Awards, where he explained who persuaded him to take the part and how they managed to do it.
