  • Sonaskshi Sinha talks about 'Lootera' and why people's snide remarks about her weight doesn't bother her anymore

Sonakshi Sinha's dream debut opposite Salman Khan gave her a launch most actresses can only dream of but people were quick to dismiss her as a one-film wonder. Three years later, she is still going strong and has romanced superstars like Akshay Kumar, Ajay Devgn and Salman Khan. Despite not being endowed with the 'waif-thin' structure which most Bollywood heroines sport, she has a filmography most actors would envy in terms of box-office success. Many would point out that Sonakshi's mature looks make it difficult to pair her with younger heroes. But Sonakshi is nonchalant about this and says, "How many debutantes can boast of working with three of the country's biggest superstars in their first three films?"
    Behind the scenes: Lootera

With her latest film 'Lootera', she sticks to her tried-and-tested desi-look which has always worked for her. The films she chooses mostly

  • Ghanchakkar trailerCast: Emraan Hashmi, Vidya Balan, Namit Das and Rajesh Sharma

    Direction: Raj Kumar Gupta

    Rating: ***

‘Ghanchakkar’ is an unusual film and needs a little patience because the pace is quite slow. In fact, it’s a little too long for a thriller and considering it hardly has any songs to break the monotony, it starts too feel a bit tedious in parts.

The director Raj Kumar Gupta and the lead cast Vidya Balan and Emraan Hashmi have a very flattering filmography at the moment. Raj Kumar Gupta’s previous films were ‘Aamir’ (2008) and ‘No One Killed Jessica’ (2011) and both received huge critical acclaim.  After ‘The Dirty Picture’ and the ‘Kahaani’, it’s as if Vidya can do no wrong. And Emraan has had some of his career’s best roles in recent times, experimenting with unconventional characters in ‘Shanghai’ and ‘Ek Thi Daayan’.  Needless to say the anticipation was quite high in ‘Ghanchakkar’.

‘Ghanchakkar’ is a comic suspense thriller and while the film has an interesting premise, it falters on

  • Titled ‘Gandi Baat’, the song will have Prabhudheva and Shahid Kapoor matching steps onscreen

Ace choreographer Prabhu Deva and Shahid Kapoor are all set to create sensation with their new song ‘Gandi Baat’ from Rambo Rajkumar. While we can’t help but snicker at the chosen title of the song, we are rest assured, given the presence of these two stars that the song is going to be a high octane number.

While Prabhu Deva has performed on-screen on songs in the past, the director-choreographer is extremely excited to perform alongside Shahid Kapoor who in his opinion is one of Bollywood's most talented performers.

The song composed by Pritam will be shot in a bar setting, rehearsals of which are currently in process. If sources are to be believed, so excited is the duo that they are making time for special rehearsals before the song shoot goes on floors. Talking about the song says composer Pritam, “With Prabhudheva and Shahid Kapoor we needed a track high on tempo and energy and we are

  • Emraan HashmiOnce tagged as the serial-kisser, Emraan Hashmi is now experimenting with all kinds of roles. He talks to us about this exploratory stage in his career and his experience of working with the Vidya Balan.

    Excerpts from the interview:

After films like ‘Shanghai’ and ‘Ek Thi Daayan’, how was the experience of working in a film like ‘Ghanchakkar’?

It’s been great, I have always wanted to do comedy, I don’t like the typical theatrical over-the-top comedy, Bollywood is known for. I knew that when I get a comedy, I would want a film with a great story, with a great character and a film that has different elements in the film, which is a rarity. When the script came to me I just felt that it has got elements of thrill, suspense, comedy, it’s got a mix bag of things and that made it very exciting for me.

What kind of roles does Emraan Hashmi get these days? Do you think filmmakers have a certain slot for you?

There has been an element of surprise in my films and I don’t want to be slotted as an

  • Vidya Balan in 'Ghanchakkar'With back-to-back hits, Vidya Balan seems invincible. Dressed in character, Vidya is wearing a not-very-flattering black kurta with floral-printed leggings and some very bizarre accessories. She has spoken a bit of Tamil, a little Kannada, some Bangla and lots of Punjabi on her promotional tour of ‘Ghanchakkar’. On a wind-swept Bangalore afternoon, Vidya finally settles down to talk to us about her experience of working in a comic suspense thriller, a role very different from her previous ones.

    Excerpts from the interview:

After all the serious roles, what made you decide on a comedy?

When Raj Kumar came to me with the script I was fascinated because the same person who wrote ‘Aamir’ and No One Killed Jessica’ had written this. For him to want me to play this character, it was unimaginable for me because she is the exact opposite of Sabrina in ‘Jessica’. I loved the fact that he had the faith that I could play a character that was diametrically opposite. And it really seems like the

  • Vashu Bhagnani's Humshakals, directed by filmmaker Sajid Khan starring Saif Ali Khan promises to be an entertainer.

After helming the two successful 'Housefull', the director returns to direct Saif Ali Khan, Riteish Deshmukh and Ram Kapoor for the first time in triple roles.

After the not-so-private fallout between Sajid Nadiadwala and Sajid Khan over 'Housefull' franchise and the failure of Sajid's ambitious 'Himmatwala', he is all geared up to make this a success. The film is slated to go on floors in September 2013 after Saif completes his home production and will be shot extensively abroad at never before seen locations. Saif’s shooting schedule for Bullett Raja (BR) has kept the actor from starting work on his home production. Although he has finished shooting for the Tigmanshu Dhulia's film, he has one song left. He has now postponed the filming of that song as he wants to concentrate on his home production. The untitled film will be helmed by the director-duo, Raj Nidimoru and

  • Cast: Dhanush, Sonam Kapoor, Abhay Deol, Swara Bhaskar, Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub

    Direction: Aanand L Rai

    Rating: *** ½

‘Raanjhanaa’ is like a Shakespearean tragedy, rendering an unusual love story that is so rare to find these days. Brilliantly filmed in the colour-soaked bylanes of Benares, the first half is a visual treat. Much like the director’s first film ‘Tanu Weds Manu’ (2011), the second of the film suffers because of the slow pace and a somewhat hurried resolution.

Dhanush may not have the looks, the physique or the charm of a typical Bollywood hero but I haven’t seen another lover as charismatic as our Kundan of ‘Raanjhaana’. Son of a Hindu priest falls hopelessly in love with a Muslim girl, Zoya (Sonam Kapoor) and this relationship is impossible in the U.P. heartland. Our ‘Raanjhanaa’ however, refuses to yield, he will do anything to get his girl; follow her everywhere, slash his wrists, even wait for her for eight long years when she is packed off to Aligarh. And

  • Saif Ali Khan was in for a surprise when he managed to get his favourite cuisine at the sets

Saif Ali Khan is known for his penchant for Nawabi food and while shooting in Lucknow for Bullett Raja with Sonakshi Sinha, Saif had to make do with whatever was available on sets. But his joys knew no bounds when he got his favorite biryani on the sets.

What we hear from the sets is that the few locals were so happy to have the team shooting in their locality that one day they went out of their way and brought home cooked food for the entire crew.

A source close to the team said, “We have been shooting in Lucknow since quite a long time now and we were all feeling very homesick. It was that one day a group of ladies came to Saif and offered him some homemade mutton Biryani. Saif loved it so much that he couldn’t stop praising the Biryani. And the next day we saw huge dabba’s filled with home cooked Biryani not only for Saif but for the entire team.”

‘It was really very sweet of those ladies that

  • The 'Fukrey' teamThe 'Fukrey' team

Cast:  Pulkit Samrat, Manjot Singh, Ali Fazal, Varun Sharma, Richa Chadda, Priya Anand, Pankaj Tripathi

    Direction: Mrigdeep Singh Lamba

    Rating: ***

‘Fukrey’ creates memorable characters and some sadi dilli nostalgia but the film never really becomes more than the sum of its parts. The linear narrative is peppered with genuine humour but the pace is slow and the events predictable.

‘Fukrey’ is about four losers who are looking for a shortcut to make big money. Their go-to person for all kinds of jugaad is Panditji (Pankaj Tripathi), he might be a college watchman by profession but show him the money and he can get you anything from leaked examination papers to a meeting with Bholi Punjaban (Richa Chadda) who deals with everything illegal. While their jugaad goes all wrong and the plot drags along, it’s these characters who make the film watchable.

Richa Chadda as the feisty, abuse-spewing Punjaban makes for an interesting personality. Pulkit, Manjot, Ali and Varun compliment each other and

  • Why Saif got sunburnt

Saif goes to extreme lengths to achieve an authentic look for Bullett Raja

Saif Ali Khan who is essaying the role of a rural and raw gangster based in the state of UP for Tigmanshu Dhulia’s Bullett Raja has been going the extra mile for this film, in a most unique manner.

Our little birdie from the film set tells us that the actor was required to get a tanned look for his earthy son of soil character and to get into the crux of it, Saif Ali Khan sat outside his van during afternoons to get the natural tan instead of pancake.

A source close to the team said, ‘Saif really puts in a lot of effort to get into his character. Tigmanshu wanted a certain tanned look since he is playing the role of a rural gangster. When Saif learnt this, he decided that instead of the makeup he would sit outside his van in the afternoons to get the natural tanned look. We all told him that it was not necessary to do that as it was really scorching hot, but he did not listen to us.”

Bullet Raja is based on the
