Zen and the art of takeout delivery: Flickr photo of the day

Photographer Joel Sparks, a Canada native now living in Gwangju, South Korea, describes this picture’s subject as “One of the multitudes of delivery riders in South Korea — bibimbap, fried chicken, and jjajangmyeon right to your doorstep.” With a photo of a motorcycle on his main Flickr image, it’s clear that Sparks appreciates transport of the two-wheeled variety. In busy places like South Korea, it beats getting stuck in four-wheeled traffic.

For some travelers, choosing a bike over a car is a practical matter. Others ride for more philosophical reasons. In his classic “Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance,” Robert M. Pirsig explains the allure: “In a car you're always in a compartment, and because you're used to it you don't realize that through that car window everything you see is just more TV…. On a cycle the frame is gone. You're completely in contact with it all. You're in the scene, not just watching it anymore, and the sense of presence is overwhelming.”
