For $130M, Buy Manhattan's Largest Single-Family Home

New to market for a whopping $130M in NYC: The Residence at Manhattan's River House building, a proposal to convert the apartment tower's private club into a home that will brag 30 rooms, plus an indoor pool, a private entrance, and an earnest brokerbabble promise to be "one of the grandest urban residences in the world." As rumors foretold, it's New York's most expensive home, and, with 62,000 square feet over five levels, "has enough room for about 10 typical Manhattan townhouses," writes the Wall Street Journal. The renderings by interior designer Tony Ingrao show the world in inoffensive opulence: 20-foot ceilings and a baby grand piano in the living room, potted palms and recessed lighting in the indoor pool area, and subway tile and exposed brick in the kitchen. In all seriousness, with the way prices are rising in Manhattan, a little less than $2,100 a square foot is starting to sound like a bargain.

Included: an 8,400 square foot "entrance/living level," a 27,500-square-foot leisure level (with a 62-foot swimming pool, tennis court, IMAX screening room, wine cellar, spa, and gaming room), and a 6,000-square-foot staff level.

Wearing the ribbon "most expensive" in NYC is no minor accomplishment, considering $125M penthouse asks and $88M sales are actual things that happen, but what's even more ridiculous, perhaps, is that this palace on the East River is not actually the country's priciest home. It's a whole $10M less than the newly PriceChopped $140M ask of the nation's priciest mansion—excluding rumored $150M listings, of course—and $5M less than a Dallas spread asking $135M. The highest price ever actually received for a single-family home in the United States? A Silicon Valley manse that sold in January for $117.5M. But enough with the nine-figure babble—on to the renderings!
