Ajab Gazabb Love Music Review

By Satyajit, Glamsham Editorial

Rom-coms and remakes are the flavor of the season, and if they collage well, they can deliver the unpredictable. AJAB GAZABB LOVE (AGL), a fun-loving romantic comedy and also an official remake of Telugu super-hit, SEEMA TAPAKAI (2011), is the next popcorn flick to hit big on silver screen. Sanjay Gadhvi, the directorial excellence and brainchild behind the grand-success of super-stylish DHOOM and DHOOM-2 directs this comical caper. Fresh from the surprise success of F.A.L.T.U, producer Vashu Bhagnani re-introduces his son Jacky Bhagnani in funkiest hilarious way in this fun-loving flick that promises truckloads of fun, adventure and laughter. Sajid-Wajid (HOUSEFULL 2, EK THA TIGER, ROWDY RATHORE), a reliable and successful composer duo of this year are the musical minds behind the album. Expectations! Yes, there are decent expectations this time as now we have a set of proficient campaigners in the credits. So can they make it big this time...let's find out!

Boom, Boom...Bombastic! AGL starts off with uproarious Afro-American hip-hop thump, progresses off sporadically with recurring rhyming drumming beats, beat-juggles and hip-hip emceeing and makes this one a truly a feisty 'beach-party' affair in 'Boom Boom (Lip-Lock)'. Sajid-Wajid's composition is outrageously upbeat as well as aggressively pulsating and sets the mood on fire, a rollicking dance party is certainly on cards this time. Mika Singh's over-enthusiastic singing in hi-pitch suits the mood to the hilt and grooves with equally thumping arrangements. Priya Panchal's madcap ' n' cheesy lyrics too add a desire spark and connect with the tonality of the soundtrack. As far its rapturous dancing mood and tempos are concerned, 'Boom Boom' falls in cadre of tracks like 'Golmaal Golmaal' (GOLMAAL), 'Subah Hone De' (DESI BOYZ) and 'Chaar Baj Gaye' (F.A.L.T.U) and delivers a bagful of dancing entertainment for urbane listeners, a tailor-made track for all those who want to shake leg on and booty hip-hop stylized dancing. For all party-animals, 'Boom Boom (remix)' is invigorating and refreshing, a finely crafted remix version that has crisp DJ's spins and claps at right places. It aggravates the hip-hop dance feel to the higher gears and makes the mood more fervent and electric. Chartbuster!!!

Mohit Chauhan, the reigning 'Rockstar' of B-town, gleams out with his romantic sonorous tones in calm 'n' composed sounding 'Tu'. It has beautiful amalgam of 'R and B' and 'Soul' westernized groovy feel that forms a beautiful signature tune and lends a desired engaging romantic feel to the track. Sajid-Wajid's composition is uber-cool and trendy, a modish melodic feel that can well represent the outlook of a typical 2012 soft-rock ballad and should be a bright musical feature in the narrative flow of the flick. Mohit's varying and modulating in optimum proportions at varied places shows his range of vocal talent and makes this one of his finest performance of this year. Kausir Munir's simplistically expressive lyrics too deserve a mention and add to the success of the track. Enchanting to core in supple romantic gestures, 'Tu' can be clubbed into listing of 'Valentines Day' special tracks and should be one among to strike chords with melody-loving listeners. Lovable!!!

'Nachde Punjabi', a scintillating ethnical folk 'bhangra' beat soundtrack, comes out as a modest but amusing break from the upbeat westernized musical feel. Unlike dozens of recently heard 'bhangra-beat' trendy tracks, it comes out as clean and unadulterated and sounds more like a typical Punjabi pop album track. Dalvinder Singh's folksy earthen voice delivers the tangy 'Punjabiyat' and works in tandem with ethnically drawn instrumentals ('tumbhi', 'ektara', 'dhadd', 'algoze', 'sarangi' and 'dhol'). Sukhjit Thandi's mischievously cheerful wordings elate the festive mood and gel well with the decorum, a perfect number for DJ's and garish colorful Punjabi wedding. Go for it!!!

Tender-soft romantic blues in 'Sun Sohniye', the last original soundtrack of the album, comes out as sweet harmonically driven surprise that adds to the positive attributes. Sajid-Wajid gives their finest to make this a perfect (if not outstanding) album and churn out a typical European folk ballad type of romantic duet that works. Meticulously conceived on light-hearted strings and supple piano drills, it delivers out an ambience of hilly serene tranquil-filled instrumental feel that moves infectiously with the vocals. Upcoming Mohammad Irfan's suave vocals in low octaves come as a refreshing piece of surprise that connects amiably with Antara Mitra's silken voice. Despite carrying a 'heard-before' syndrome in its signature tuneful appeal, it comes out a fresh whiff of air that works in making this an audibly resounding love duet, overall a sounding decent romantic track that should spark blooms on big screen. 'Sun Sohniye (remix)' changes the mood completely and comes more like a commercially viable musical piece. Catered to perfection for discotheque, it comes in typical 'club-remix' maneuvers and mixes the vocals with an aggressive set of beat-juggles and DJ claps.

AJAB GAZABB LOVE is funky, energizing but concisely packed upbeat musical entertainer. As far as its groovy modish musical feel is concerned, Sajid-Wajid succeed potentially in delivering a couple of chartbusting hit tracks in songs like 'Boom Boom' and 'Tu' and leave no space of mediocrity in the album. 'Sun Sohniye' and 'Nachde Punjabi', fast-paced 'bhangra' number are two reasonably composed soundtracks that add to the narration and fun-element of the flick. Despite being too concise (just four original soundtracks) in credit listing, the predictable 'entertainment-quotient' is sufficient enough to make noises on audio stands and box-office.
