Bollywood legend Amitabh Bachchan was awarded with 3rd Hridaynath Mangeshkar award as he turned 71-years old on October 11, which coincided with 71 years of contribution in the film and music industry by Nightingale of India, Lata Mangeshkar.

The Mangeshkar family has been celebrating Pandit Hridaynath Mangeshkar's birthday for the last 24 years and since the past three years, they have started the tradition of honouring the stalwarts from the industry. While Big B was to be conferred with the award by Lata Mangeshkar herself, due to her ill health she gave the event a miss and thus the honours were done by the Showman of Bollywood, filmmaker Subhash Ghai.

The award ceremony was followed by a musical concert, where singers Sunidhi Chauhan, Shaan, Mahalaxmi Iyer, Sudesh Bhosle gave tribute to both Bachchan and Lata Mangeshkar.

An elated Big B also posted about the honour on the micro-blogging site, "And then a truly proud moment ... a reward at the hands of the Nightingale Lata Mangeshkar ji for my contribution to cinema. An honour beyond all else. The traditional head wear of respect, the shawl of reverence and the garland of flowers, along with the priests from SiddhiVinayak and their chants, to the glittering tray replicating the temple and 71 'modaks' the religiosity of its temperament on a beautifully decorated tray, were all filled with an emotion difficult to describe ..."
