Bachchans take over Bollywood

Now this could well be a record in the offering. For perhaps the first time ever, a family would be dominating the silver screen for three weeks in succession and that too across different era, presentation and genre. Bachchans, who have otherwise seen spaced around releases would themselves, would be not just ending the year but also beginning the New Year with a film each.

"The films in question are DHOOM 3, MAHABHARAT and SHOLAY 3D which are releasing on back to back weeks," informs an observer.

While DHOOM 3 stars Abhishek Bachchan, MAHABHARAT has an animated character of 'Bheeshma' based on the personality of Amitabh Bachchan, who has also dubbed for the film. Meanwhile, Big B and Jaya Bachchan's SHOLAY 3D is being re-released in a new 3D version with the living legend expected to promote it extensively en route release.

"It is as uncanny as it gets and could well make it to the record books too," comments an insider, "This hasn't happened before when a family has dominated theatres for so long. However Bachchans are now the privileged lot because while DHOOM 3 arrives on 20th December, MAHABHARAT enjoys a Christmas release on 25th December. A week later, Bachchan couple kick-start the New Year with the re-release of SHOLAY 3D on 3rd January."

Incidentally, the only actor who is trying to make his presence felt amidst all the Bachchan mania is Arshad Warsi whose MR. JOE B. CARVALHO is slated to arrive on 3rd January, hence clashing with SHOLAY 3D.

"Ironically, many moons ago, Arshad was launched in TERE MERE SAPNE by Big B's ABCL. They were later also paired in ZAMAANAT but the film never saw the light of the day. Now when they would be seen on the big screen by arriving on the same day, it would be in the form of a clash," the insider adds.

Meanwhile for the father-son pair of Bachchans, it is going to be some dhoom times indeed at the box office with total domination expected at the box office counter.

One wonders if Aishwarya Rai Bachchan is missing being a part of all the action, considering she was the leading lady in her hubby's DHOOM 2!
