Bollywood box-office report of the week

By Abid, Glamsham Editorial

This week will see multiple releases in the form of MAIN KRISHNA HOON (animated), AKAASH VANI and RACE 2. It is obvious that it will be a one horse race in favour of the Anil Kapoor, Saif Ali Khan, John Abraham, Deepika Padukone and Jaqueline Fernandez starrer, RACE 2. The collections will be further boosted by the holiday weekend, with Eid-e-Milad-un-Nabi on Friday (in many states) and Republic day on Saturday. In fact there bright chances of RACE 2 beating Saif Ali Khan's biggest grosser, COCKTAIL, by about 20-25 crore or more, depending upon the contents/merits of the Abbas-Mustan directed film.

Last Friday saw the release of Sudhir Mishra's Arjun Rampal and Chitrangda Singh starrer, INKAAR. After a dull opening day (1.60 crore), the film failed to show any significant growth during the next two days, netting around 5.60 crore during the opening weekend from India. The film also had a big drop during the weekdays, and has little or no chances of survival, given the fact RACE 2 is going to take up most of the screen space from this week

The other two releases of the week, Viking Media and Entertainment Pvt. Ltd.'s Sachiin Joshi starrer MUMBAI MIRROR and the Aditya Om directed BANDOOK, fared worse, and are commercial disasters. In fact BANDOOK is a huge debacle and many shows had to be cancelled.

After a so-so opening weekend (21-22 crore), Vishal Bhardwaj's MATRU KI BIJLEE KA MANDOLA saw ordinary weekdays as the film collected 3.75 crore from Bombay (collections from other cinemas unreceived), 90 lakhs from Ahmedabad, 24.65 lakhs from Surat, 27 lakhs from Baroda (collections from 5 cinemas unreceived), 23 lakhs from Rajkot, 75 lakhs from Pune, 13.55 lakhs from Nasik, 9 lakhs from Goa, 2.25 lakhs from Belgaum, 5 crore from Delhi city (collections from 5 cinemas unreceived), 57.50 lakhs from Noida, 42 lakhs from Ghaziabad, 25.65 lakhs from Kanpur, 47 lakhs from Lucknow, 16 lakhs from Agra, 10 lakhs from Allahabad, 4 lakhs from Meerut, 5 lakhs from Aligarh, 90 lakhs from Gurgaon, 13 lakhs from Faridabad, 5.65 lakhs from Kurukshetra, 7.50 lakhs from Panipat, 15.25 lakhs from Chandigarh, 13.50 lakhs from Jalandhar, 3.50 lakhs from Amritsar, 11.65 lakhs from Ludhiana, 3.75 lakhs from Bhatinda, 4 lakhs from Ambala, 4.25 lakhs from Jammu, 65 lakhs from Calcutta, 6.75 lakhs ftom Siliguri, 4 lakhs from Dhanbad, 2.55 lakhs from Ranchi, 3 lakhs from Bhubaneshwar, 7 lakhs from Guwahati, 30 lakhs from Nagpur, 14.50 lakhs from Jabalpur, 20.25 lakhs from Raipur, 50 lakhs from Indore (collections from 2 cinemas unreceived), 10 lakhs from Gwalior (collections from 3 cinemas unreceived), 20 lakhs from Bhopal (collections from 3 cinemas unreceived), 75 lakhs from Jaipur (collections from 2 cinemas unreceived), 3 lakhs from Jodhpur (collections from 4 cinemas unreceived), 8.85 lakhs from Ajmer, 5.55 lakhs from Bikaner, 19.50 lakhs from Kota, 13.35 lakhs from Udaipur, 55 lakhs from Hyderabad, 10 lakhs from Aurangabad (collections from 2 cinemas unreceived), 90 lakhs from Bangalore, 1.50 lakhs from Vijayawada, 3 lakhs from Visakhapatnam, 5 lakhs from Madras, 1 lakh from Coimbatore and 2 lakhs from Kochi. Netting around 32 crores during the opening week from India, MATRU KI BIJLEE KA MANDOLA will have to rely on non-theatrical rights for recovery. The Pankaj, Shabana, Imran and Anushka starrer has also under-performed (better in US) in the overseas, grossing and#163;155,300 from UK and $440,000 (approx) from the US, till the second weekend (18-20 January).

Meanwhile Aditya Datt's TABLE NO. 21 saw a big fall in the second week as the film collected 50 lakhs from Bombay, 15 lakhs from Ahmedabad, 6.50 lakhs from Surat, 5 lakhs from Baroda (collections from 2 cinemas unreceived), 5 lakhs from Rajkot, 10 lakhs from Pune, 1.50 lakhs from Nasik, 1 lakh from Goa, 15 lakhs from Delhi city, 4 lakhs from Noida, 1.50 lakhs from Ghaziabad, 1 lakh from Kanpur, 2.55 lakhs from Lucknow, 2 lakhs from Gurgaon, 5 lakhs from Calcutta, 1.75 lakhs from Nagpur, 1 lakh from Jabalpur, 3 lakhs from Raipur, 2.65 lakhs from Indore, 5 lakhs from Jaipur, 1 lakh from Kota and 4 lakhs from Bangalore. Adding another 2.25 crore, TABLE NO. 21 has netted a satisfactory (given the cost and cast) 12 crores in two weeks from India. The Paresh, Rajeev and Tena starrer is an average, as the Fiji government subsidy has reduced the costs further.

Concluding with the Arbaaz Khan directed DABANGG 2, the film is ending its run as it collected 30 lakhs from Bombay, 13 lakhs from Ahmedabad, 2.50 lakhs from Surat, 4 lakhs from Baroda (collections from 2 cinemas unreceived), 5.25 lakhs from Pune, 1.50 lakhs from Nasik, 15 lakhs from Delhi city, 2.55 lakhs from Noida, 2 lakhs from Ghaziabad, 3 lakhs from Kanpur, 7 lakhs from Lucknow, 1 lakh from Agra, 1 lakh from Allahabad, 1.50 lakhs from Gurgaon, 5 lakhs from Calcutta, 1 lakh from Dhanbad, 2.65 lakhs from Nagpur, 2.65 lakhs from Raipur, 3.50 lakhs from Indore, 4 lakhs from Bhopal, 20 lakhs from Jaipur (collections from 3 cinemas unreceived), 1.50 lakhs from Ajmer, 6.50 lakhs from Hyderabad and 5 lakhs from Bangalore. Adding another 2 crore, DABANGG 2 has netted 153 crore in four weeks from India. The Salman Khan, Sonakshi Sinha and Prakash Raj starrer is a blockbuster.
