Bollywood Box-Office Report Of The Week

By Abid, Glamsham Editorial

This week's prominent new releases include Suneel Darshan's Shiv-Hasleen starrer rom-act (romantic -action) flick, KARLE PYAAR KARLE, and class actor Nawazuddin's MISS LOVELY. Given that both the films are releasing a week before Salman Khan's mega project, JAI HO, reduces the potential of the two mentioned films. However a section of the youths will prefer KPK while the class audience will surely patronize MISS LOVELY.

Meanwhile last Friday's two diverse releases, T-Series Divya Kumar Khosla directed YAARIYAN and Vishal Bhardwaj's DEDH ISHQIYA saw contrasting fortunes. While YAARIYAN started on a good note but failed to show much growth over the weekend, DEDH ISHQIYA saw a dull start but picked up as the weekend progressed. As things stand, due to the low cost YAARIYAN is all set to be the first success of 2014, while the much more expensive DEDH ISHQIYA will struggle at the box office. DEDH ISHQIYA is so-so in the overseas grossing and#163;38,500 from UK and $158,000 from the US during the opening weekend (10-12 January).

Meanwhile, the Arshad-Soha starrer, MR. JOE B. CARVALHO, could not achieve anything significant collecting 25 lakhs from Bombay (collections from other cinemas unreceived), 10.55 lakhs from Ahmedabad, 2.55 lakhs from Surat, 2 lakhs from Baroda (collections from 5 cinemas unreceived), 1 lakh from Rajkot, 3 lakhs from Pune, 1.50 lakhs from Goa, 30 lakhs from Delhi city, 5 lakhs from Noida, 5 lakhs from Ghaziabad, 2.75 lakhs from Kanpur, 3 lakhs from Lucknow, 1.50 lakhs from Allahabad, 5.15 lakhs from Gurgaon, 1 lakh from Faridabad, 3.15 lakhs from Chandigarh, 1.15 lakhs from Ludhiana, 5 lakhs from Calcutta, 2.55 lakhs from Nagpur, 1.50 lakhs from Jabalpur, 2.15 lakhs from Raipur, 5 lakhs from Indore, 1.50 lakhs from Bhopal (collections from 3 cinemas unreceived), 15 lakhs from Jaipur, 2 lakhs from Kota, 1.50 lakhs from Udaipur, 10 lakhs from Hyderabad and 5 lakhs from Bangalore. Netting a paltry 3.50 crore during the opening week, MR. JOE B. CARVALHO is a trade disaster.

Moving on G.P. Sippy's Amitabh, Dharmendra, Sanjeeev, Hema, Jaya and Amjad starrer SHOLAY 3D (along with revived) collected 1 crore from Bombay (collections from other cinemas unreceived), 20 lakhs from Ahmedabad, 6.65 lakhs from Surat, 5.50 lakhs from Baroda (collections from 2 cinemas unreceived), 5.50 lakhs from Rajkot, 20 lakhs from Pune, 5.50 lakhs from Nasik, 3.50 lakhs from Goa, 75 lakhs from Delhi city, 12 lakhs from Noida, 12.65 lakhs from Ghaziabad, 6.75 lakhs from Kanpur, 16.25 lakhs from Lucknow, 5 lakhs from Allahabad, 16.50 lakhs from Gurgaon, 3.15 lakhs from Faridabad, 1.50 lakhs from Kurukshetra, 2 lakhs from Panipat, 8 lakhs from Chandigarh, 3 lakhs from Jalandhar, 2 lakhs from Ludhiana, 15 lakhs from Calcutta, 1.55 lakhs from Dhanbad, 2.50 lakhs from Ranchi, 3.25 lakhs from Bhubhaneshwar, 10 lakhs from Nagpur, 3.50 lakhs from Jabalpur, 4.50 lakhs from Raipur, 11.50 lakhs from Indore (collections from 2 cinemas unreceived), 2 lakhs from Gwalior (collections from 2 cinemas unreceived), 5 lakhs from Bhopal, 20 lakhs from Jaipur, 2 lakhs from Ajmer, 1 lakh from Bikaner, 5.15 lakhs from Kota, 4.15 lakhs from Udaipur, 10 lakhs from Hyderabad, 2.55 lakhs from Aurangabad, 20 lakhs from Bangalore, 1 lakh from Vijayawada, 1.75 lakhs from Visakhapatnam, 1.50 lakhs from Madras and 1 lakh from Kochi.
