Bollywood box-office report of the week

The coming Friday will witness multiple releases in the form of Indra Kumar's next in the MASTI series, GRAND MASTI, the Naseeruddin Shah and Randeep Hooda starrer JOHN DAY and Vikram Bhatt's HORROR STORY. Though it is difficult to choose the front runner, but one feels that MASTI franchise may just take a lead over JOHN DAY and HORROR STORY.

The outcome of last Friday's two releases, the Priyanka Chopra and Ram Charan Teja starrer ZANJEER and the Sushant Singh Rajput and Parineeti Chopra venture SHUDDH DESI ROMANCE, was obvious much before the two films actually released. It was the YRF venture, SDR, that scored handsomely over the Apoorva Lakhia venture, netting around 22-23 crore during the opening weekend. On its part ZANJEER barely managed 10-11 crore during the same period. In the overseas too, it was SHUDDH DESI ROMANCE that dominated the show grossing and#163; 56,000 from UK and $346,000 from the US during the opening weekend (6-8 September).

Netting 51 crore during the opening week, SATYAGRAHA needs another decent week to be declared a success. The film has done fairly well in the overseas (good in US) grossing and#163;210,000 from UK and $673,000 from the US till the second weekend (6-8 September).

Meanwhile after a creditable opening week Shoojit Sircar's John Abraham starrer, MADRAS CAFE fell heavily (barring Bombay and Delhi) during the second week collecting 1.75 crore from Bombay (collections from other cinemas unreceived), 20 lakhs from Ahmedabad, 6.75 lakhs from Surat, 15 lakhs from Baroda (collections from 2 cinemas unreceived), 3.50 lakhs from Rajkot, 56 lakhs from Pune, 10 lakhs from Nasik, 3.25 lakhs from Goa, 1 crore from Delhi city, 17.50 lakhs from Noida, 11.50 lakhs from Ghaziabad, 7.15 lakhs from Kanpur, 12 lakhs from Lucknow, 2 lakhs from Agra, 2.75 lakhs from Allahabad, 25 lakhs from Gurgaon, 2.50 lakhs from Faridabad, 7.35 lakhs from Chandigarh, 3 lakhs from Jalandhar, 3 lakhs from Ludhiana, 45 lakhs from Calcutta, 3 lakhs from Siliguri, 9 lakhs from Dhanbad, 2 lakhs from Ranchi, 3 lakhs from Bhubhaneshwar, 3 lakhs from Guwahati, 10 lakhs from Nagpur, 2 lakhs from Jabalpur, 6.50 lakhs from Raipur, 10 lakhs from Indore, 2 lakhs from Gwalior(collections from 2 cinemas unreceived), 5.50 lakhs from Bhopal, 15.75 lakhs from Jaipur, 1.50 lakhs from Ajmer, 2.50 lakhs from Kota,3 lakhs from Udaipur, 25 lakhs from Hyderabad, 6.50 lakhs from Aurangabad, 65 lakhs from Bangalore, 2.15 lakhs from Mangalore, 1 lakh from Vijayawada and 3 lakhs from Visakhapatnam. With another 8 crore, MADRAS CAFE has netted 43 crore in two weeks from India and is an average fare. MADRAS CAFE has also done well in the overseas (despite not releasing in UK) grossing $485,000 from the US till the third weekend (6-8 September).

Concluding with Rohit Shetty's Shahrukh Khan and Deepika Padukone starrer, CHENNAI EXPRESS, the film saw another fair week as it collected 65 lakhs from Bombay (collections from other cinemas unreceived), 12 lakhs from Ahmedabad, 3 lakhs from Surat, 3.25 lakhs from Baroda (collections from 5 cinemas unreceived), 6.25 lakhs from Rajkot, 21.75 lakhs from Pune, 4.75 lakhs from Nasik, 2 lakhs from Goa, 45 lakhs from Delhi city, 5.75 lakhs from Noida, 5 lakhs from Ghaziabad, 4 lakhs from Kanpur, 10 lakhs from Lucknow, 2 lakhs from Agra, 2.20 lakhs from Allahabad, 7 lakhs from Gurgaon, 1.50 lakhs from Faridabad, 2.50 lakhs from Chandigarh, 12 lakhs from Ludhiana, 20 lakhs from Calcutta, 2.25 lakhs from Siliguri, 1.50 lakhs from Dhanbad, 1 lakh from Ranchi, 2 lakhs from Guwahati, 12 lakhs from Nagpur, 3.50 lakhs from Jabalpur, 5 lakhs from Raipur, 7 lakhs from Indore, 2 lakhs from Gwalior (collections from 2 cinemas unreceived), 4 lakhs from Bhopal (collections from 2 cinemas unreceived), 10 lakhs from Jaipur (collections from 4 cinemas unreceived), 2 lakhs from Ajmer, 1.50 lakhs from Bikaner, 2 lakhs from Kota, 2.50 lakhs from Udaipur, 23 lakhs from Hyderabad, 5 lakhs from Aurangabad, 35 lakhs from Bangalore, 1.75 lakhs from Mangalore, 5 lakhs from Vijayawada, 4 lakhs from Visakhapatnam and 1.50 lakhs from Madras. With another 6 crore, CHENNAI EXPRESS has netted an unbelievable 215 crore in just four weeks from India and is an all-time blockbuster. CHENNAI EXPRESS is an overseas blockbuster grossing $17.50m with and#163;2,140,500 from UK and $5,221,000 from the US till the fifth weekend (6-8 September).
