Abhijit Mukherjee, a Member of Parliament from Jangipur and the son of President Pranab Mukherjee, who recently made chauvinistic remarks about women protesting against the Delhi gangrape incident, came under a lot of flak from Bollywood for his insensitive statement.
Taking to Twitter, Shabana Azmi wrote, "Should Abhijeet Mukherjees sexist comment about women protesters being 'dented and painted' be reciprocated with 'damning and shamming'?"
Farhan Akhtar wrote, "Abhijit Mukherjee, the Presidents son, says students should not wear make up and/or go to discotheques!! U can't blame the President for his sons comment but I think as his parents, they should ground him and start home-schooling him again."
Veteran actor Anupam Kher wrote, "Abhijit Mukherjee is one of those mentally bankrupt politicians who are completely unaware of reality of Modern India. He needs treatment."
Shirish Kunder too made his displeasure known by writing, "So Abhijit Mukherjee goofs up today. This government is playing "Kaun Banega Mr. Bean?"
The film industry has been quite vocal about the recent horrific gangrape case in which a 23-year-old medical student was abducted and raped by a bunch of men in a moving bus in Delhi.
