Celeb-Favourite Salon Dessange Opens In Mumbai

Alia Bhatt, Sidharth Malhotra get slick hair dos for the opening.

When model Cara Delevingne needed to get her hair expertly styled before walking the red carpet at the Cannes International Film Festival 2013, she turned to these guys -- the hair experts at French salon Dessange, who've been official hairstylists at the world's most stylish film fest for over 25 years.

While they opened their doors in Delhi almost a decade ago, this weekend they officially launched their Mumbai salons, one in Kemps Corner and the other in Bandra. In attendance were starlets Alia Bhatt and Sidharth Malhotra and models Carol Gracias and Nina Manuel.

Jacques Dessange started the salon in Paris in 1954, and very quickly became popular with the leading actors of the time, including Brigitte Bardot and Jane Fonda, and created hairstyles for design houses Christian Dior and Chanel. At a time when hairdos were sharp and clean, he went against the grain and introduced his signature 'Coiffé-Décoiffé', a.k.a the 'messy look' technique.

Jacques, and now his son Benjamin Dessange the CEO and Chairman of Dessange International, have taken their Coiffé-Décoiffé offering across the globe over the last 30 years, opening over 500 salons in more than 45 countries. They plan to open 20-25 luxury and mid-segment salons in India over the next four years, according to an Economic Timesreport.

Must-try services

Dessange is known for their sun-kissed highlights and messy haircuts, but their most unique offering is the Terre Precieusse clay. Literally translated as 'precious earths', these blends for the most part contain natural ingredients, including clays, essential oils, marine and botanical extracts, precious metals and stones, and botanical-origin cleansing bases. They don't follow the regular shampoo/conditioner order, but each shampoo ritual starts with the application of the clay to the scalp, depending on your scalp type.
