Is Deepika Padukone SRK's new Simran?

By Joginder Tuteja, Glamsham Editorial

More than half a decade after OM SHANTI OM, Deepika Padukone is pairing up with Shahrukh Khan again in CHENNAI EXPRESS. While Raj and Simran have stayed on to be an iconic couple who were brought together by Aditya Chopra on a train, it is the 'jodi' of Rahul and Meena who have been instructed to 'get on the train' by Rohit Shetty.

"Yes, but then there is a twist here which is really funny," says Deepika, "This time around the girl is in a much more dominating position. She is the one who dominates the proceedings in the Rahul-Meena relationship. She is feisty, fiery and takes charge."

Taking charge is something that Deepika is pretty much doing for her career as well, what with her carefully thought of moves resulting in three back to back successes (YEH JAWAANI HAI DEEWANI, RACE 2, COCKTAIL) and more on the anvil before close of year. No wonder, CHENNAI EXPRESS is being considered by all as yet another major milestone in the career of this Bangalore girl.

"Well yes, CHENNAI EXPRESS is an event release by all means. All said and done, it is a packaged affair at the end of the day. When all of this comes together, commercials do get attached," says Deepika about her big ticket film.

She soon goes on to add, "I think for me, right now it is not time to be thinking numbers much. I hope people appreciate what I am doing in the film. That's the intention."
