Delhi vintage car rally to go global next year

New Delhi, Dec 5 (IANS) The 21 Gun Salute Vintage Rally, one of the largest rallies of vintage cars and bikes, plans to go international from next year, an official said Wednesday.

"The 21 Gun Salute Vintage Rally is back with a larger canvas. The overwhelming participation from across the country in the rally has persuaded us to take it to the international level next year," Madan Mohan, managing director of 21 Guns Salute, told reporters at a media briefing in the capital.

Talking about the need of such a rally, Mohan said: "These vintage cars and bikes represent our country's heritage that we have maintained. Such a rally would let the younger generation know about 19th century cars and showcase the evolution of the automobile industry to the new generation."

At the event, three rare vintage cars owned by former maharajas of Bundi (a 1940 Buick), Mysore (a 1947 Bentley) and Darbhanga (a Rolls Royce) were displayed.

The national car rally will be organised in association with the Heritage Motoring Club of India (HMCI) in Gurgaon Dec 9. Over 150 vintage cars and bikes -- including Rolls Royce, Bentley, Stutz and Buick -- will participate.

The rally will be flagged off from Panchsheel Club in New Delhi and will cover Vasant Vihar, NH-8 and finish off at Leisure Valley Park in Sector 29 Gurgaon.
