London, Jan 20 (ANI): Drew Barrymore recently spoke out about her troubled childhood and how she will keep daughter Olive from repeating the mistakes she made in her past.

During an interview with Oprah Winfrey, the 37-year-old actress spoke about her battles with motherhood as she is trying to raise her four-month-old daughter Olive away from the spotlight, the Daily Mail reported.

In the interview, Barrymore revealed about how she plans to shape her new career as a mother as well as troubles with her own, whom she didn't invite to her wedding in 2012.

She said that her mother was not there for her wedding, which was very hard, but at the same time she thought it would be best to keep her away from the ceremony.

The '50 First Dates' star also revealed about her rebellious childhood, in which she started abusing drugs and alcohol at an early age.

She had her first drink at 9, began smoking marijuana at 10, and took cocaine at 12, after which she had multiple stints in rehab in her early teens and at 15, she moved into an LA apartment on her own after being granted an emancipation decree from her parents.

When the famed talk show host asked the star specifically what she could learn from her childhood, Barrymore broke into tears and said that as a kid what she craved the most was just believing that her mom was going to be there.

She also said that the biggest obstacle for a child is the worry that her "parents won't be there."

The former child actress said that she is determined to outgrow her rebellious past and keep her daughter from repeating it. (ANI)
