London, December 7 (ANI): Nancy Huston's erotic novel 'Infrared' has received one of the literary world's least coveted prizes: the Bad Sex award.

Despite missing out on the tongue-in-cheek award, EL James claimed the prize for Popular Fiction Book of the Year at the Specsavers National Book Awards.

The erotic novel saw off competition from five other books including Bernard Cornwell's historical novel 1356 and Kate Mosse's Citadel, the Telegraph reported.

The book, the first in a trilogy of x-rated tales, has become a literary phenomenon, selling more than 5.3 million copies to become the bestselling book of all time in the UK.

James was just one of the female authors dominating the prizes, with eight other women winning accolades for their work at the awards ceremony.

Booker Prize winner Hilary Mantel scooped UK Author of the Year, while sports presenter Clare Balding won the autobiography category for 'My Animals And Other Family'.

Comedian Miranda Hart took non-fiction book of the year with 'Is It Just Me' and the 'Adrian Mole' author Sue Townsend claimed best audiobook for 'The Woman Who Went to Bed for a Year'.

Other winners included David Walliams for children's book 'Ratburger', 'The Hairy Bikers', 'Si King' and Dave Myers for Food and 'Drink Book of the Year', and Ian Rankin who scooped the Outstanding Achievement Award.

"These awards rightly celebrate the books people are actually buying, reading and loving," the Telegraph quoted Amanda Ross, from Cactus TV which produced the awards, as saying. (ANI)
